ARENA 1 Galleryis pleased to present BETWEEN TWO SEAS / Southern Italy meets Southern Californiawhich is the third iteration of exhibitions in an exchange program among Californian, Italian and International Artists. Curated by Carmelo Cipriani (Italy) and Luigia Martelloni (USA), the current exhibition features nine contemporary Italian artists ranging in age from 25 to 95 from the MAAAC Museum Cisternino, all of whom live and work in Apulia.
In the exhibition space the invited artists create a complex chessboard between thought and physicality. They let their works observe each other, creating new semantic routes based on suggestions, similes, contrasts and denials. Art can be a social matter and each work can become a moment to extend memory and weave meditations about today. Presented here are nine different ways to proceed in the art world, nine characters enclosed in a microcosm of peculiar experimentations. The protagonists become aware of their ways of being and feeling and together they compose a web of deep and complex interpretations that strengthen the most evocative parts of each work. (Carmelo Cipriani)
